When it comes to a way with words, Kinglake residents have embraced the teachings of renowned author Arnold Zable to form a writing group coordinated and supported by the Kinglake Library. Council’s Library and Customer Services Manager Ann Le Lievre said the project was being coordinated by Council’s Kinglake Office Manager Neesha Sinclair. “Neesha was one of more than 20 participants when Arnold held his workshops earlier this year as one of the support services for those in the Kinglake area recovering from the 2009 bushfires. “The writing course was an outstanding success and as a result those who participated have kept in contact and Neesha has now established the ‘Write It Out’ writers group who will meet monthly.” Arnold Zable is a dynamic and highly acclaimed writer who held a three day workshop in Kinglake, influencing participants to embrace the power of words. His workshops were booked out within days of advertising Comments from those workshops included:
Council’s Community and Customer Services portfolio spokesman Cr Cris Ruhr said the formation of the writing group was a significant initiative by Council staff. “It is a wonderful way of bringing people together. It provides a social connection, will allow people to grow their writing skills and who knows, perhaps we can see the next Arnold Zable?” Cr Ruhr said. “This new initiative will encourage our local writers to tell their stories and Arnold is keen to call in and see how this group progresses throughout the year, This is for anyone wanting inspiration, encouragement, time, space and a place to write.” The Write It Out group will start on Monday 6 September from 7.30pm at the Kinglake Library. All sessions are free and funded through the generous sponsorship of the Victorian Writers Centre, the Grace Marion Wilson Trust and facilitated by the Murrindindi Library Service. Further inquiries can be directed to Neesha 5786 1800 or simply turn up on Monday 6 September. Food, refreshments and writing book will be provided. |
